On this trip, I have worn them to walk every day, on the deck, up the Processional at Ephesus and down the stairs at Santorini. The thick red brick rubber soles are just the thing for uneven stone as well as city sidewalks, the lightly lined buckskin uppers pass enough air to keep my feet reasonably cool, and the color is an excellent complement to linen in the sun.

The principal difficulty posed by white bucks is finding a suitable pair in the first place (a buck bag will keep them white with minimal effort). Alden's version, for example, has leather soles, which dramatically reduce the shoe's utility for walking less than perfectly paved surfaces. Others have uppers made of Nubuck instead of suede and do not wear as cool (real buckskin of course is only available bespoke unless you can transport yourself back in time a couple of decades and pick up some Church's like the ones on my feet in the photo). Mark McNairy appears to make a decent pair, with the caveat that I have not looked at them closely.

Perfect summer shoes for tourists.
