Well his career did anyway. Jim Caviezel, best known for playing Jesus in Mel Gibson's searing and controversial The Passion of the Christ, <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/04/jim-caviezel-hollywood-passion-christ">complained this week</a> that he had become a Hollywood outcast after his messianic screen outing. Caviezel, a Christian himself, told an audience at a church in Orlando that he had been "rejected" by the film industry following the release of the film, a big box office hit. "Jesus is as controversial now as he has ever been. Not much has changed in 2,000 years," he explained. The he went on to show the tact and diplomacy that ought to have charmed the movers and shakers by calling Gibson "a horrible sinner".</p><h2>In other news</h2><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/05/liz-taylor-michael-jackson-marlon-brando">• Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson and Marlon Brando 'fled 9/11 in hire car'</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2011/may/05/thor-sequel-kenneth-branagh">• Hammer time: it's Thor 2 (and 3)</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/05/jackie-cooper-dies-superman">• Superman actor Jackie Cooper dies at 88</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/04/edinburgh-film-festival-2011-lineup">• Edinburgh film festival announces initial lineup</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/04/seven-samurai-remake-weinstein">• Seven Samurai remake charges ahead</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/03/jim-caviezel-passion-of-the-christ">• Jim Caviezel claims The Passion of the Christ made him a Hollywood outcast</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/may/03/us-dvd-sales-online-tv">• US DVD sales plummet 20%</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/03/arnold-schwarzenegger-cry-macho-comeback">• Schwarzenegger to cash in with Cry Macho</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/03/osama-bin-laden-film-kathryn-bigelow">• Osama bin Laden the movie: now with happy ending</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/may/01/top-hollywood-directors-protest-downloads">• Top Hollywood directors protest over home downloads</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/may/01/elstree-studios-hollywood-blockbuster">• The King's Speech puts Elstree Studios back on the map for Hollywood moguls</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2011/may/01/angela-lansbury-mother-west-end">• Angela Lansbury's dream of a return to her mother's West End roots</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/apr/29/british-film-paedophile-suspect-award">• Tribeca film festival: British film about paedophile suspect among winners</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/apr/29/top-prizes-tribeca-film-festival">• First-time female directors take top prizes at Tribeca film festival</a></p><h2>On the blog</h2><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/04/one-day-anne-hathaway-trailer-spoilers">• One Day: contains spoilers, no warning</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/04/clip-joint-loose-threads">• Clip joint: loose threads</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/04/thor-fast-furious-5">• Thor crushes rivals as Fast & Furious 5 races on</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/03/cannes-2011-snowtown-justin-kurzel">• Cannes 2011: Snowtown and the banality of serial killing</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/03/houdini-magic-movies-early-cinema">• Houdini and the magic of the movies</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/02/insidious-calls-forth-wrong-demons">• Insidious calls forth the wrong demons</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/may/02/fast-five-thor-us-box-office">• Fast Five success means that summer blockbuster season is here early</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/apr/29/90s-film-movie-nostalgia-reservoir-dogs">• There's no movie magic in 90s nostalgia</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/apr/29/film-relationships-analysed-twilight">• Is happily ever after just a fairytale?</a></p><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2011/apr/29/transformers-dark-moon-michael-bay">• Reasons to feel sunny about Transformers: Dark of the Moon</a></p><h2>Multimedia</h2><p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/video/2011/may/05/robert-pattinson-water-elephants-video">• Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz on Water for Elephants -
